Mixtape Review: Mr. Boom Boom Bang's THE REBUILD

  

If the name isn't apparent, the music is. Mr. Boom Boom Bang creates a sound full of trap-rap samples and lyrics so braggadocios, it seems he might overdose on his self awareness of the drug, and game selling skills he possesses. Not to say the tracks aren't club or banger worthy, take “Hello Money” for example, it's an ode to a fleeting dollar bill that seems to allude him. This currency dilemma comes complete with triggered drums, string samples, and a frantic techno keyboard arpeggio to round out your next loud ride to the bank. Later, “Don't Trust Nobody” brings a claustrophobic dance phantasm of paranoia, in which the only cure is a trustworthy shotty. Some moments of greatness do show through on the mixtape, like the auto-tune vocals on the aforementioned “Don't Trust Nobody” which calls to mind something Kanye West would ghost write in between his croissant binges, or the “Good Ones” trap-lean amalgam that is consistent even through its Drake biting chorus. As somebody from the south I gotta respect the direction, but a little more grits, or K.R.I.T would helps the future of somebody who has promise crossing the divide from good to great, in either a pop or hardcore setting.

Interview with Rhyme Scheme

The Carolina Inquirer sits down with rising hip hop recording artist Rhyme Scheme to talk about his forthcoming All Black album soon to be released through SMG Global Network, possibly working with producers from the Carolinas, his single "4 Letters" and a lot more!  Read all about what this artist has to say......

The Carolina Inquirer:  What has Rhyme Scheme been up to so far in 2013?

Rhyme Scheme:  2013 has been a busy year. I've been pushing my single "4 Letters" to get worldwide exposure. I've been working on collaborations and performing across the country.

The Carolina Inquirer:  For those that haven't heard you yet, want makes Rhyme Scheme different from all the other artists out there right now?

Rhyme Scheme: Rhyme Scheme expresses reality in music.  I like to speak to the common man and share his story through music.

The Carolina Inquirer:   Right now you have a single and music video out called "4 Letters", could you tell the readers a little something about your single?

Rhyme Scheme: "4 Letters" talks about scenarios of love.  We have all experienced love.  Sometimes love is fun, sad, complicated, and intense.  The  song has many emotions.

The Carolina Inquirer:  Do you plan on filming another music video?  If so, for what song and what concept  do you have for it?

Rhyme Scheme: I plan on filming a video for my track " Can't Stop". The video will show my struggle in music and how I stayed dedicated.

The Carolina Inquirer:  You recently signed a 2 year distribution deal with SMG Global Network/ Universal Digital Music Group.  What lead to your signing and why did you decide to release your upcoming album All Black with this company?

Rhyme Scheme:  I was contacted by an A & R from SMG Global Network regarding my track "4 Letters".  The popularity of the track lead to my signing. I decided to drop All Black because of the buzz I have been receiving.

The Carolina Inquirer:  What can listeners expect to hear on your All Black album?  Who did you work with and what topics are you addressing?

Rhyme Scheme:  All Black address many entertaining social issues. The title speaks for itself. "What is life being Black?" " Living All Black" . These are a few lines from the album. 

The Carolina Inquirer:  How would you describe the overall feel of All Black?

Rhyme Scheme:   All Black has the feel of Tupac's album Me Against the World. 

The Carolina Inquirer:  Where are you from?

Rhyme Scheme:   I'm originally from Detroit, MI.  I started my music career in Los Angeles.  My style of music is a mixture of midwest/west coast.

The Carolina Inquirer:  Have you ever been to North or South Carolina?  If so, what was your experience?

Rhyme Scheme:  I've been to both North and South Carolina. I can see myself moving to Charlotte one day. The Carolinas have that home feel.

The Carolina Inquirer:  Have you collaborated with any artists or producers out here?

Rhyme Scheme: I plan on working with a few producers in the near future from the Carolinas.

The Carolina Inquirer:  What are your plans for the rest of 2013?

Rhyme Scheme:  After dropping All Black, I will start working on some fusion tracks. Maybe a few bilingual songs with a island influence.

Many years ago, an idea for a band was conceived. The band would be as ambiguous as their name would suggest. 4 people confident that music would be made, polished, and performed when the time came. 2 years later, the band would emerge from a cavern they called Carmine\'s garage. It was where they were comfortable. Something grew inside them though, a deep rooted urge to get out and do something with the music they had been nurturing for so long. Creeptones would creep out of the garage, where they were going however, was yet to be determined. Would it be a backyard? A coffee shop? A college, festival, carnival, or a dive-bar? Quite possibly it would be all of these things. Maybe though, if you can dream, it would be somewhere a bit closer to home, a pair of a headphones, a memorable evening, your own heart. The soundtrack to the way you felt the first time you realized \'Wake up, wake up, this is really your life\' Creeptones are coming, and hopefully you will be too.

Winner of the 2011 ACM Record's Battle of the Bands competition. Rock music. Modern aesthetic with the spirit of music from the middle 20th century. There are 2 guitars, a bass, and a drummer. Some keyboards to add texture. All members sing with great use of harmonies. The Creeptones are from Toms River, NJ.
